Examining the Merger of the West Goshen Police Department and Westtown-East Goshen Regional Police Department

About the study

• The Process

   

  The project will examine the cost of police operations for both the West Goshen and WEGO Police Departments and will identify the impact of a merger on the operations and costs of police service. Areas to be examined include: staffing, personnel costs, pensions, post-retirement benefits, vehicles, equipment, weapons, facilities and department operations. The three townships plan to explore merger options that include the continuation of employment for all current uniformed officers in the time period immediately following a merger. CGR will develop and analyze merger options involving organizational structures and practices.

• The Board Supervisors

   

  The process is being overseen by the three Boards of Supervisors, with assistance from the Center for Governmental Research (CGR), a nonprofit management consulting organization with expertise in government management, public finance and municipal consolidation processes. The Boards of Supervisors have designated the three Township Managers and the two Police Chiefs to serve as a Study Committee providing direct oversight of the study. Options developed by CGR for the merger of the two police departments will be presented to the Boards in a public meeting.
