In July of 2009 the City of Batavia and Town of Batavia completed a consolidation study resulting in a plan to fully consolidate the two governments. In August of 2010, the City was awarded a NYS Local Government Efficiency (LGE) Grant to develop a new city charter. The new city charter will combine the current city and current town into one new City of Batavia. In April of 2011, the City and Town jointly approved a Task Force and charged them with developing the new city charter.
The city charter is being developed by an eight member Task Force of Town and City residents, with assistance from the Center for Governmental Research (CGR), a nonprofit management consulting organization with expertise in government management, public finance and municipal consolidation processes.
The Task Force and CGR encourage public engagement in this process. Please submit your comments, questions and other feedback by clicking here and visiting the public engagement page.
