The Village and Town boards have received a recommendation from the Dissolution/Coterminous Study Committee to pursue the creation of a city charter. The charter would involve the transition and full consolidation of the existing Village and Town into one new municipal entity. The boards will be reviewing the recommendation and supporting documentation submitted by the committee and available on this website. Each board will have to approve pursuing the charter and then begin a formal joint process to initiate proceedings.
The study report was developed by a ten - member Village/Town Study Committee with assistance from the Center for Governmental Research (CGR), a nonprofit consulting organization with expertise in government management. The committee was also being staffed by the Village Administrator, The Village and Town Clerks and the Village and Town attorneys.
The study committee worked for ten months to compile information and make some determinations on options available to the community. The committee delivered their final recommendation to the Village and Town boards for their review in November, 2010. At this time there are no planned referendums.
