This website is designed to facilitate community engagement as the City of Jamestown and Chautauqua County consider options for providing consolidated police services. The study process began in February 2012 and is expected to take twelve months.

In 2009 the City of Jamestown and Chautauqua County completed a consolidation study with the NYS Division of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) resulting in a baseline analysis of opportunities and challenges confronting the first city/county merger of police operations in NYS. Leaders in the city and county both expressed interest in moving the preliminary findings to the next stage to see if solutions could be found to the challenges that are inherent in the merger. The current study, funded by a grant from the NYS Local Government Efficiency program, will build upon the previous study and determine if a path can be forged towards consolidation of the two police operations.
The study is being developed by a twenty five member committee of City and County leaders, with assistance from the Center for Governmental Research (CGR), a nonprofit management consulting organization with expertise in government management, public finance and municipal consolidation processes.
